Tips For Keeping Your Laundromat Clean and Spotless

Keeping your laundromat clean has always been an important part of running your business. In fact, according to the American Coin Laundry Association more than 80 percent of customers say that cleanliness is a major factor when they’re choosing a laundromat. After all, a laundromat is a destination for customers looking to clean their clothes and belongings – and a grubby exterior or interior hardly inspires confidence in the average consumer. Creating a clean, fresh space is a crucial way to attract and retain customers.

Thankfully, maintaining your laundromat doesn’t have to be a difficult process, especially when you follow these simple tips.

Tip #1 – Sanitize Common Areas Regularly

The first step to maintaining a clean and well-maintained laundromat is to sanitize the common areas in your laundromat regularly.

Assign employees the task of inspecting common areas hourly to confirm that there is no trash on the floors, bathrooms are clean/stocked, and chairs/tables are clean.

Tip #2 – Don’t Let Wet Laundry Sit In The Washers

There’s no denying that some people like to multitask and run a washer while they are eating their launch, or at work, but the reality about this is some loads of laundry can sit in the washer long after their wash cycle has finished.

When this happens, it’s very easy for mold/mildew to grow in the machine so it’s best to place signs at your laundromat encouraging customers to remove their laundry from the washer quickly.

Since every laundry customer has a mobile phone these days, you can also place signage at your laundromat that reminds them to set a timer on their phones so that they won’t forget to get their laundry once their wash has finished.

Tip #3 – Leave Washer Doors Open, When They Are Not In Use

Last of all, another helpful way to ensure the cleanliness of your laundromat is to leave the washer doors open when they are not in use.

Following this tip will also stop mold/mildew from growing and ensure that washers always smell fresh when a customer uses them.

This year, take special care to regularly sanitize your washers and dryers with effective chemicals like chlorine bleach. Hydrogen Peroxide is very effective in killing germs and mold spores without discoloring surfaces. You’ll also want to immediately sanitize machines if you notice customers washing clothes contaminated with poison oak or poison ivy, pesticides, or bodily fluids like blood.
