Sustainability in Laundry: From Urgency to Action
Clean energy. Smart water use. Circular thinking. Sustainable laundry is here—and Girbau is leading the way.
As energy costs rise, water becomes scarcer, and environmental regulations tighten, forward-thinking companies are reimagining how laundry systems can serve both business and the planet. The pressure is on. But pressure also brings opportunity.
At Girbau, 2024 marked a turning point in how they’re shaping laundry systems that serve both their clients and the planet.
Taking climate action seriously. In 2024, they reduced Scope 2 emissions by 35% and cut Scope 3 emissions by 6%, while still growing revenue by nearly 7%. This was made possible by targeted investments: rooftop solar panels now power their main production site, HVAC systems have been electrified, and LED lighting has been installed throughout their facilities. And with their internal G-SEEDS program, they’re aligning sustainability goals with business performance and employee incentives.
Water is another top priority
Their goal at Girbau is to achieve a zero blue water footprint by 2040. Last year, they cut water use per euro of revenue by 23%. This was driven by smarter testing systems, leak detection in internal networks, new water recirculation installations, and awareness campaigns within their teams. Their Water Saving Plan is not just a promise—it’s already delivering results.
Waste and circularity matter too. In 2024, they reduced total production waste by 18% and recovered 85% of it. From reusing cardboard in packaging, to custom reusable boxes and plastic reduction, every action adds up. they’re also investing in circular business models and collaborating with leading institutions to extend the life of textiles and minimize environmental impact.
This progress earned us the EcoVadis Bronze Medal, ranking us in the top 19% of companies worldwide. But the real win? Building cleaner, smarter, and more resilient laundry solutions, with the strength of 870 people behind them.
