Success Story, Family Business Award!

Halifax, NS, Canada, East Coast Laundry was recently awarded the Family Business Associations Atlantic’s Family Business of the year award.

The award is an honor for East Coast Laundry, and it sheds a spotlight on a family-owned business that’s been going strong since the 1980’s.

Business Is In The Family’s Blood

CEO Peter Blunden didn’t come to business late in life, his father and grandfather started a business (Blunden Supplies) in the 1940’s and he started working there at age 13, so like his family members, he had business ‘in his blood’ early on in life.

Blunden and his wife Marge would start East Coast Laundry in 1985, an industrial laundry equipment service and parts company.

During the award ceremony, Peter discussed how his company was able to survive the Covid-19 pandemic, and the ensuing global supply chain issues, by purchasing large quantiles of supplies in advance and continue operating while other laundry businesses shut down.

Leading The Business Rebound In Canada

Besides his decisions which helped his company navigate the supply chain crisis, Blunden was also able to tap into help from the Canadian Federation of Independents Business, along with the Halifax Chamber of Commerce. Both organizations helped his company access government programs and stay afloat while other companies struggled.

Located at 519 Herring Cove Road in Halifax, the company now has 12 employees that serve their clients in New Brunswick and Newfoundland.
